"One day Pina asked..."
"One day Pina asked..."
From June to August 1983, Belgian filmmaker Chantal Akerman followed Pina Bausch and her dancers on tour from Wuppertal to Milan, Venice (Italy) and Avignon (France). She documented performances, rehearsals and backstage situations. With some of the dancers, Akerman shot in the ‘Lichtburg’ rehearsal room in Wuppertal. In Avignon's Palace of the Popes, Pina Bausch also showed her latest piece Nelken (Carnations), which had only just found its more or less final shape.
The documentary film was made in 1983 under the title Un jour Pina a demandé... for French television as part of the series Repères sur la Modern Dance by Alain Plagne and is available here for the first time free of charge on the internet. The film contains excerpts from Pina Bausch's pieces Come Dance With Me (1977), Kontakthof (1978), 1980 - A piece by Pina Bausch (1980), Walzer (1982) and Nelken (Carnations) (1982).
